BRIEF
Tees Valley Multi Academy Trust needed to provide temporary classrooms for children with special educational needs whilst their permanent academy was being built.
The temporary Discovery Special Academy had to have high-quality specialist teaching facilities and be ready quickly for the September term.
The offsite solution
In eight weeks Premier Modular designed and installed a single-storey school block consisting of five modular classrooms with sensory areas, a hall with offices, cleaning facilities, special toilets with motorised sinks, and changing rooms. The installation time also included groundworks, drainage, M&E, and landscaping as well as a canopy for the play area.
THE FACILITY
A purpose-built facilities for children who need them, The Academy has been designed with a specialist curriculum in mind and now provides 60 primary places for Tees Valley children including some who had never been in a school setting. As well as educational provision the modular school hosts therapeutic and health workers for some of the children who have even more complex needs.

An ambitious programme – as the school had to be operational for the September term works were carried out over the summer holiday and during weekends
Local residents were concerned about the construction work particularly with the delivery and cranage of the modules. Premier Modular and Tees Valley Education worked together as a team to mitigate concerns and proactively communicate with the community.
minimising disruption
By providing the decant facilities under a bespoke rental arrangement, the Academy could provide the best specialist learning environment for the pupils of Brambles School while the new facility was being built.
Despite a tight programme and complexed groundworks, the project was completed on time. This enabled the school to accommodate staff and pupils without disruption to the the beginning of term.
