Building opportunities and carving career paths
“Premier has enabled me to learn and apply practical, highly-transferrable skills to a number of projects,” says Harvey Le Grove, who recently graduated from his Level 2 Site Carpentry Apprenticeship at Premier Modular with a distinction.

Creating local opportunities
Following his graduation, Harvey was recently interviewed by the BBC about his experience with Premier and Full Sutton Prison – a key project he worked on during his apprenticeship training.
Full Sutton Prison is a new 1,440 capacity prison under construction by Kier Group.
“Premier’s role at Full Sutton Prison involved delivering 68 high-quality, temporary modular units, which will support the welfare of site teams throughout the new prison construction programme,” explains Harvey.
“I was part of the team responsible for the carpentry fit-out, ensuring the internal environments were tailored to the site team’s specific use and needs.”
Working as a team, Premier developed, delivered and installed the 68 modular units in under nine weeks – providing 2,448 sqm of high-quality office and welfare spaces for onsite construction teams throughout the three-year build programme.
“The great thing about Premier is the job – and career – opportunities it creates for the local community,” continues Harvey.
“As a local project, the Full Sutton Prison project was delivered by 30 team members, many of whom are from the local area and will continue to be employed by Premier after the project’s handover.
“There’s a clear focus on sourcing local talent to deliver projects, which really helps with the team’s work-life balance, as there’s less travelling involved.”
A new apprentice academy for the future
“At the start of 2022, Premier launched its ‘Premier Academy’, which has tripled its annual apprentice intake – offering more local young people the opportunity I was given three years ago,” says Harvey.
The ‘Premier Academy’ is a factory-based scheme, designed to bridge the skills gap in the modular construction industry. It offers a formal qualification, alongside internal training in our manufacturing facility, to support the growth and development of our employees.
That internal training covers modular-specific tasks, the ability to read technical drawings, modular/steel erection, all underpinned by technical and personal reviews of skillset and progress each month throughout the academy journey.
Investing in the future
“It doesn’t stop at apprenticeships. No matter what level you work at, Premier invests in the growth of its whole team, offering training opportunities at every level to build skillsets, whether that’s through technical further studies or degrees, through to MBAs, for example,” explains Harvey.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what training opportunities are next for me now that I’ve graduated from my apprenticeship. I’ve already been looking into my Level 3 qualification in Site Carpentry.
“The whole Premier team is rich with knowledge and technical expertise, it’s great to be able to learn practical skills alongside them while developing my own knowledge at the same time.”
