The Brief

After a flood destroyed two of the school’s buildings, Weavers Academy was in need of emergency classrooms to teach its students.
Time was of the essence, and the school urgently required teaching space, as lessons were being held in unsuitable teaching areas, such as sports halls, which was having an impact on learning.

The school called upon Premier Modular to install a full turnkey solution, providing two new buildings to replace the 14 classrooms and two food tech rooms that were now water damaged. Thanks to our speed of response and ability to deliver exactly what the school needed in a short amount of time, Weavers Academy chose Premier to create purpose-built spaces with a high level of fit out to meet the needs of the students.

The Building

Two modular buildings were installed on site, consisting of 43 modules in total; one building was a three-story building containing 14 classrooms, and the other housed two purpose-built food tech rooms.

The buildings were designed with education at the forefront, so the food tech rooms featured a higher specification fit-out, including specific ventilation that took into account to the number of hobs that would be used in the classrooms, the amount of space needed per student and the installation of specialist worktops and ovens.

As part of the full turnkey package, we oversaw every aspect of the project from start to finish. This included everything from the initial groundworks and foundations to the installation of necessary service connections, such as water, electricity, and waste systems. Our team managed all phases of construction, including the design, procurement and installation, ensuring a seamless delivery.

The Challenges

The school had to quickly find a solution, due to the severity of the flood damage, so speed and response time was crucial when delivering the new buildings. Our team quickly reacted when Weavers Academy reached out to Premier Modular and our expert team arranged a site visit within a couple of days to assess what needed to be delivered. To minimise disruption to learning, we fast tracked our solution to successfully complete three months of work in just six weeks, without compromising on safety or quality.

The site was on a busy residential road, which made the delivery of materials and equipment challenging. With over 40 scheduled deliveries and multiple contractors, managing traffic flow and minimising disruption to residents became a priority. We organised deliveries outside of pick up and drop off times, to ensure the safety of students and local residents. Despite logistical challenges, the project was successfully completed within our scheduled timeline, going above and beyond the expectations of the client.
