Premier Reduces Carbon Emissions for New Hospital Building by 48 Per Cent

The latest data released by Premier Modular shows that the new 3,450sqm outpatient services building at King’s College Hospital, which is nearing completion, is benefiting from a 48 per cent reduction in regulated carbon emissions.

This has been achieved using a combination of low carbon measures and energy from renewables:

  • Enhanced building fabric specification with high levels of insulation to reduce heat loss and running costs
  • Highly energy efficient system for precise heating and cooling and using heat recovery
  • An efficient radiant panel system powered by air source heat pumps – an alternative to radiator heating
  • Hot water using a bivalent system – 65 per cent from air source heat pumps
  • High efficacy LED lighting throughout with daylight dimming control to rooms with windows
  • A photovoltaic array of solar panels to generate around 45kWp of electricity output.

The King’s College Hospital project had stringent requirements for energy efficiency in compliance with the London Plan and new SAP 10 carbon factors for the reduction of carbon emissions. It was also designed to target BREEAM 2018 Ene01 excellent standard.

The £21m contract for King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is Premier’s largest single offsite healthcare project to date and is being delivered with its construction partners Claritas Group, TClarke and P+HS Architects.
